Naked Urban Decay

This palette has been around for quite some time and I can’t live without it! It has beautiful pigmented shadows that pop and its perfect for traveling. The natural warm colors help create the perfect daytime/evening eye or a smokey eye. I like to apply my Nars primer to reassure long lasting wear so that I maximize my results and I haven’t been displeased yet! This is a definite go-to palette that every girl should own. 🙂

Peppermint Sugar Scrub

Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas! I’m looking forward to seeing what this approaching New Year has to bring in year 2013. For now I will enjoy whats left of 2012 and this homemade peppermint sugar scrub I made which makes a nice exfoliant. It also makes a nice gift for girlfriends and you could change the colors to fit your occasion (Baby showers, Birthdays, etc.) or any holiday (Valentines, Christmas, etc.).
Ingredients
2 Cups of Sugar
Red Food Color
Mason Jar
1/3 Cup of Light Olive Oil
1/8 Cup of Coconut Oil
1/4 tsp of Peppermint Essential Oil
Pour sugar in a bowl, add the olive oil, coconut oil, and peppermint oil. Mix well. In separate bowl I added more sugar and oil and red food color (until I reached my desired color). There is not an exact science or measurement when making your scrub. You can add as much oil of the sugar or oils as you like until you reach the desired texture and smell you like. Then pack into a mason jar tightly. I tied a ribbon around mine with a candy cane! 🙂

They’re Real

They’re Real mascara by Benefit will leave people asking, “Are They Real”? I have a top 5 favorite mascara list and this one is one just made it to the top of that list! I love everything about it and its totally worth the splurge! It has a special designed brush that gets every lash and emphasizes your real lashes. Every mascara claims that they are the best and its usually a lot of hype but this one is GREAT! FYI- I always wear two mascaras because it really gives you loooooooong lashes! This particular one paired up with my YSL Faux Lash gives me extremely long, curled and full lashes.
Results observed in a consumer panel survey reveals: 94% saw dramatic length & volume, 90% saw base to tip curl, 94% saw visible lift, and 100% saw long-wearing results!

Nasal Waxing

Not a fan of body hair or nose hair? I know some of you may think this post is TMI and gross but I wanted to share with you the wonderful world of nasal waxing. It sounds painful right? Well, it’s not! Actually, it’s not at all! You know when you wax your brows and sometimes you experience a quick 10 second ouch moment? Guess what…not even a 1 second ouch moment. I was shocked and I now have a new habit. I didn’t have unsightly nose hairs before but working at a spa you always try new things and nasal waxing was new on the menu. I was coerced into it but I’m happy I tried it. In goes the wax on a stick, allow to dry for a minute, then your nose is pinched and its pulled from your nostril. Wa-La no more nose hairs! It’s great for guys because tweezing hurts and brings tears to your eyes. I know there is an argument on how your nose hairs are there to protect against germs and dust particles, so its a personal preference choice that’s up to you at the end of the day. I just figured I would share this non-painful service with you. 🙂

Shea Butter Body Scrub

As women we spend so much time multitasking putting work, family, etc before our own needs that we tend to neglect pampering ourselves. So, I think you should always mark some time off on your calendar and call it “ME TIME”! For some it may seem or feel a bit indulgent but YOU deserve it. After all, we only live once and the spa is relaxing and reduces stress. Let’s not forget its healthy to have ME time (everyone needs time to themselves)! That’s exactly what I did yesterday with my girlfriend Jen at the Spa at Four Seasons. We took an afternoon venture downtown for a hot stone massage and a scrub. I decided to do a scrub because I felt I was becoming a statistic always ordering a typical massage and facial. My skin has been extremely dry, therefore I went with the moisturizing shea butter and salt scrub which is infused with shea butter, sunflower oil, and safflower oil. It was perfect for my over exposed dry skin. My spa therapist applied the scrub all over me, then I rinsed off the scrub in the shower attached to the room, and she then applied shea butter all over my skin. WOWZERS! Incredibly smooth baby soft skin!
After, I decided to purchase the ISUN shea butter body scrub. It’s a nourishing & moisturizing body exfoliant with organic shea butter and mineral salts. Infused with lavender, peppermint, and rosemary essential oils. I figured I would give myself a weekly scrub at home and try to maintain healthy skin with a glow. 😉
Alternative: You can make scrubs at home by using sugar, salt, olive oil, or purchase an oil (saffron, sunflower, etc), and you can add scented oil for a pleasant smell (lavender, mandarin, etc). Budgeted scrubs that will get the job done!

Want Perfect Skin

Want perfect skin? Everyone has heard before, “You better wear sunscreen!” Well, I wish I would of listened when I was a kid because now I’m working hard on reversing the sun damage I’ve caused to myself through the years! I wasn’t one of the lucky ones blessed with beautiful olive skin, instead I have fair skin and freckles. I use to hate my skin color and wanted to bake in the sun for hours to have a sun-kissed look. Now that I’m a little wiser I get my tanned look by spray tanning! It’s clearly a better choice than the alternatives. With that being said I want to age gracefully as possible, so I’ve learned the importance of sunscreen in my daily facial regimen. The packet you see below is a sample from a Med Spa I was at recently, but you can do research on finding a sunscreen that suits you. Apparently, there is a true argument amongst dermatologist on wether you apply sunscreen before or after your moisturizer. At this point I’m going to have to say just adding it period is doing more justice then not, but I like to add mine before my moisturizer. I feel mentally it has a better effect since its in direct contact with my skin. Use a sunscreen that’s safe and comfortable for your face. While the consistency of sunscreen is important in a facial product, its also wise to look for one that won’t clog your pores. Apply all over face, in hairline, temples, ears and the front and back of your neck. Then you can apply moisturizer along with your foundation and complete with your following steps. I like to use an all over sunscreen then apply a tinted moisturizer with SPF 20 by Laura Mercier on days I want lighter makeup (now I have double the SPF). Some of my other products contain SPF as well which just ensures that you have great coverage. Better be safe then sorry and start incorporating sunscreen now or you will be spending thousands on photo-facials and peels in the future to get smooth looking skin without age and sun spots!
Note: Let’s not forget about the C word “CANCER”…PROTECT YOURSELF AGAINST SKIN CANCER!

Blue Eyes

Colored mascara is making a strong come back ever since NY Fashion Week. The Runway Models were rocking the fun look and its now the fall 2012 trend! I couldn’t wait to purchase the blue but I’m still wanting the purple and the burgundy. Just make sure when wearing it you achieve a flawless face and well groomed brows. You want a very natural looking face so that all the attention is focused on the eyes and the eyes pop! YSL, Estee Lauder, Christian Dior are just a few of the brands that carry the colored mascaras. I went with the Christian Dior Mascara “Azure Blue” and the Urban Decay eye liner “Deviant” to get the look I was gunning for. FYI.. I also put my eye liner on the inside of my top eye lid (I feel it really adds more depth). You can choose not to use eye liner but I feel with my skin tones it popped more with the eye liner. 🙂
Note: If these brands are not in your budget you can also buy a drugstore clear mascara and a super pigmented eye shadow (color of your choice and crush to powder form), roll the wand in the eye shadow and apply to your eyes!

New Facial Regimen

After, running out of Lamer facial cream and my face wash, I decided to venture out and try something new. Lamer is great but price wise its super expensive and I figured there must be something out there comparable in product vs. price. Being in Colorado its extremely dry so I need something semi-heavy, which the Lamer was helping out in getting the job done. Honestly, my skin was freaking out coming from Florida where I had tons of humidity and now here in Colorado there is NO humidity. It’s dry people! I’m now trying this face cleanser by Perricone MD which I use morning and evening and so far so good. It’s light yummy scent makes me want to bathe in it. It’s a gentle cleanser if you have sensitive skin I recommend it. It’s part of there anti-aging line (I would like to age gracefully), with antioxidants, olive oil, and polyphenols and not to expensive at $35.00.
As far as the facial cream, I am currently using the Clarins line. It’s the HydraQuench Rich Cream thats for dry skin or cold climates. It has hyaluronic acid which helps with long lasting hydration and maintains your skins moisture levels. Again, not very expensive at $49.00 compared to the $350 for Lamer.
If your in the market for new facial products, I’m definitely a fan of these two so far! 🙂
