A Few Of My Favorite Things…

A few of my favorite things from this past week …Took a tour of Hammonds Candy Factory which has been in business since 1920 and they produce 4000 pounds of candy a day! Stopped by Four Seasons for some lunch (always amazing)! Ordered a fruit pie from Gateaux Bakery and had a nice relaxing massage!
Its a New Year so time for New Adventures!

Hot Chocolate & Crushed Peppermint

Hello All! I kicked off my morning with hot chocolate and crushed peppermint. What’s hot chocolate without marshmallows and cool whip? It’s Plain Jane and there are NO Plain Jane’s around here. So, of course those were added too and I think I hear Starbucks calling now for the recipe because its sooooo delicious! Im holiday obsessed at the moment and the rest of my day is dedicated to making more holiday candy for YOU! 🙂 Oh, and it happens to be snowing today so not much else to do but cook and enjoy the fire I have burning. The snow really makes it feel like Christmas!
I happen to have a cuisnart coffee maker that comes in handy daily. I have the hot chocolate pods which I popped in to make myself a cup in under a minute. Genius I tell you! I made my crushed peppermint in my food processor which is a perfect surprise of flavor to add to your coffee or any of your holiday desserts. I know everyone doesn’t love peppermint and to be honest I’m not a huge peppermint fan but when you grind it up into a powder (you can grind to your liking) it has a nice light sweet flavor and adds a little extra something to your dishes. I blended my peppermint a fine consistency, place mini marshmallows in my hot chocolate, squeezed a nice size portion of reddi-whip on top and sprinkled with peppermint! Bam~you now have yourself an $8 cup of Starbucks hot chocolate in the luxury of your own home! 🙂

A Few Of My Favorite Things …

Hi Everyone! Hope you had a wonderful weekend! 🙂
I’m pleasantly stuffed from mine. I dined at one of my favorite breakfast joints called “Snooze”! I think the name is adorable but the food is RIDICULOUSLY DELICIOUS! It’s a cute restaurant with a 70s theme and tons of atmosphere. They have a unique menu with high quality food using all natural, farm raised, and free ranging local products and Snooze’s exclusive organic coffee is picked, roasted and flown directly from Guatemala every week. Its always hard to choose what to order from the menu, you can check out their menu at http://www.snoozeeatery.com but I decided on the Chilaquiles Benedict (Carne asada steak served on a cheesy, saucy, tortilla stack topped with poached Niman Ranch eggs, smoked cheddar cheese hollandaise, fresh salsa and cotija cheese) and the Cinnamon Pancake drizzled with syrup, powdered sugar, and pecans. You have to check this place out if your ever in the Denver area!! It’s not your average breakfast place …
Over the weekend I had some sushi for lunch at Hapa in Cherry Creek. Another unique place that they carry a line of sushi rolls with sexual titles, it’s an interesting menu to say the least. I ordered for starters the shumai (shrimp dumplings) and seasoned edamame with truffle and soy (bomb), plus the XXX Roll (avocado and tempura asparagus roll wrapped with hamachi and jalapenos, seared with olive oil and served with ponzu), and the lobster roll. Sushi lovers you would enjoy this quaint restaurant.
Since I’m covering all the food basis I might as well throw some Italian in the mix and so I did! Di’Franco’s is in downtown Denver in the bottom of the Beauvallon building and is ahhhhhh-mazing! Went with take-out on this one which made my night. Took home the Mushroom Polenta (polenta cake, shitake mushrooms, farm fresh egg, arugala + shaved pecorino cheese), Hand Rolled Squash Ravioli (roasted butternut squash, brown butter sage, grated windsor dairy cheese, + an amaretto crumble), and Hand Rolled Gnocchi (italian sausage ragu, grated pecorino, + fresh oregano). Sooooooooo good! What’s Italian without a cannoli? Boring 😉
Now, that I shared my food loving weekend with you stay tuned because it didn’t end there! I started making some of my Holiday Desserts that I will be sharing with YOU today!
Hope everyone has a healthy, happy, and productive upcoming week! XOXO

Fig Preserves & Fromager D’ Affinois

Appetizers or Hors d’oeuvre (whatever your occasion or whatever you like to refer to them as) are HUGE with me! I think they are a great pre-dinner snack, perfect with wine, and are a crowd pleaser! I paired fig preserves with fromager d’affinois (similar to brie), marcona almonds, and served on top of a natural crispbread (thin wafer). Oh, my ….these bite size treats are mouth watering! The fig preserves are a nice compliment to the french double-cream soft cheese made from cows milk and the marcona almond (from spain) adds a sweet & salty crunch and flavor. I highly recommend these when entertaining or just having the girls over some wine and cheese!

Turkey Leftovers

As Thanksgiving weekend comes to an end I’m sure everyone is wondering what the heck to do with all the turkey leftovers! Waste not, Want not…Isn’t that the saying? I made a couple uses for my leftover turkey by making a turkey cheesy breakfast bake and a turkey pot pie which are both Mmmmmmm Mmmmmm Good! I hate wasting anything (especially food) so try and be creative with the leftovers so you can use up everything and keep the company happy. I hope everyone is fat and happy and enjoyed their holiday! Posting these two recipes now @ http://www.prettybitchescancooktoo.com. 🙂

Time To Make The Donuts

No, literally its time to make the donuts! 🙂 I know everyone loves a donut every now and again, right? I do! I had the craving this morning and made cinnamon & sugar donut holes. All you need is a can of biscuits (I keep extra in fridge because they come in handy) and pull them apart into three’s and role into balls. You could also make regular size donuts by placing a hole in the center of the biscuit. Heat your peanut oil on the stovetop until its nice and warm then reduce the heat to a medium-low or low. You may want to test a few before hand to make sure your oil is the right temperature before you toss them all in. You will continuously flip with your tongs until golden brown on all sides and cooked all the way through. Place the cooked donuts onto a plate covered with paper towels to absorb any extra oil and then toss in your cinnamon & sugar mixture. You will need 1 tsp of cinnamon and 1/4 cup of sugar to coat. Bam~you have donuts! Tasty little weekend treat 😉
